Judy's Dead

Filmmaker’s Note

I started Judy’s Dead about six years ago. Rather than spending my time and resources going to graduate school for film or writing, I decided to form my own company and recruit local talent to help me make a tangible product. This is the result of the experiment.

This film was made with bold ignorance. Not ignorance of storytelling or technical capabilities on the part of any member of the team, but rather ignorance to the difficulty of executing such a large project and hoping it might find a sizable place in the world. Unfortunately for us, Judy’s Dead never quite made the impact we hoped it would.

This is not to say that the film is meritless. I made the film I set out to make. The performances, especially the central performance by Tom Atkins, have a dynamic authenticity that, for me, go well beyond what is typically seen in low budget film and touch a level that can safely be called art. The beats of the story and the ideas I hoped to explore are all there. I wanted to make a movie that if a group of film buffs went to see it together, everyone would have something different to say about it afterward – everyone could bring something different to the table. I think I did that. I hope you agree.

I made this site because I wanted this film to reach the largest audience possible. There’s a Paypal button on the side, and truthfully, we have a long way to go before this film breaks even financially, but what’s most important to me is that people who are interested have the opportunity to see and engage with our work. If you like the movie, please tell your friends, share this page, or follow us on social media. Should you pay a little bit for watching, your contribution is greatly appreciated.

If you’d like to share an observation or ask me basically anything, feel free to write me a note at judysdead@gmail.com. Also, look for my next movie, The Race, which should be playing in the Pittsburgh area in the coming months.

Thank you!
